Living Movement Chi Walks 2024 ....

In a Chi Walk we connect with the natural movement that is tai chi, we walk, pause, immerse ourselves in the feeling of nature, the feeling of life in our bodies and the feeling of life under our feet, over our heads,  inside of us and all around us.

We find places where we tai chi together or simply take time to be alone in the landscape, tuning to the natural world, connecting with the ‘spirit of place’ in a variety of settings.

** You are most welcome to join whether you have experience in tai chi or not **

The next walk:
EQUINOX CHI WALK

Sunday 22 September 10am - 12noon
At Ashclyst Forest near Exeter
In collaboration with the Devon Wildlife Trust
and their 'Saving Devon's Treescapes'

What we do:
We visit natural places: beach and cliff top, moorland, woodland and meadow and drink in the experience of where we are, the season, the time of day, the spirit of the place. With the tai chi offering us a way, we tune inward to  ourselves and outward into Nature.

You'll notice with the timing that sometimes a Chi Walk is designed to fit with the natural world rather than for convenience.  If the timing seems odd, it'll be set to give the richest, fullest experience influenced by the season, the sea, the moon, the sun....

April 30 2023 : Spring Chi Walk at Andrew's Wood
In association with Devon Wildlife Trust
and the Saving Devon's Treescapes Project

So much life, so much birdsong, so many different shades of green on our spring chi walk!

A greeting from the chaffinch and oak leaves bursting forth on the big tree in the car park. Then hazel, hawthorn, snails on the blackthorn, a swallow over the field of dandelion clocks. Beautiful crab apple blossom, a chorus of chiff-chaffs, harts tongue ferns unfurling.  Buzzard, bluebells, beautiful stitchwort....

Taking time to breathe, to listen, to tai chi, to learn about the trees. Ash and mountain ash (rowan), oak, willow, birch, hazel, hawthorn, blackthorn...more....

and their Saving Devon's Treescapes Project

 A beautiful winter's morning at Andrew's Wood
The trees' branches bare of leaves
show their shapes clearly against the pale,
bright January sky
buds promising the coming of spring

"The lungs of the earth", someone says

Ash, Willow, Birch, Hazel, Oak, Blackthorn

Bickham Autumn Chi Walk
Saturday 29th October 2022 : 11am until 2pm Bickham, South Devon

Donations towards the Bickham Project.

With yesterday's Autumn Chi Walk at Bickham we enjoyed a warm south wind, leaves falling, Field Fares and Redwing, inspired practice by the waters of the River Avon and Daisy's excellent home made muffins.

Bickham, South Devon

"Such a special day yesterday - the combination of people and connections, the place, the elements, the beings - the dippers, the kingfisher, the sheep, the ducks, the damsel flies and dragon flies, the fish, the swallows and house martins, the woodpecker, the tea and Karen's cake in the kitchen. I'm so happy that you are happy at the thought of the Barn Owl box ... just wonderful".

A mid-summer evening at Hound Tor
Sunday 11th June 2022 from Hound Tor Car Park

An evening mid-summer chi walk on Dartmoor starting from Hound Tor carpark, walking across to the Bowerman's nose, with gradually setting sun and rising full moon, wonderful light and long summer shadows, stonechat, skylark, space and sky and the rare treat of a cuckoo close by when we paused for a little tai chi at the top of the hill...oh...and excellent tea and carrot cake too.
