This little film from is Fred's summary of the 2019 workshops in Devon
Thanks to Andrew Heckert for giving us an introduction to Fred Hao in 2019.
Fred brought great skill, insight and inspiration at the workshops in Devon and London last year.
Happily Fred is coming again in 2020.
Fred has written:
Fred Hao has studied Professor Cheng Man Ching’s 37 Form Tai Chi Quan for 32 years. In 1985, Master Chian Yunnan who lived in Taiwan was Fred’s first Tai Chi teacher. Master Chian taught Fred Professor Cheng Man Ching’s 37 Form and Taoist Sword with applications. Master Chian was especially good at the Tai Chi posture rollback, and Fred became good at it too.
Master Chian asked Fred to study the book Lao Zi and then encouraged him to study it even more. Fred devoted himself to researching Lao Zi Dao-De-Ging and its relationship with Classic TaiChi Quan. After five years of study Fred realized his understanding and skill in Tai Chi was becoming deeper and higher.
Dr. Tao, Ping Shiang was Fred’s second teacher. Master Chian Yunnan was Dr. Tao’s good friend in Taiwan, and he sent Fred to Dr. Tao’s place to learn Tao’s Tai Chi Quan. Dr. Tao was especially light and agile and far better than Master Chian. Thanks to Dr. Tao, Fred Hao learned lightness and agility too.
Dr. Tao was teaching Tai Chi Quan and push hands in some places in the U.S. After Dr. Tao passed away, Fred Hao came to USA, bringing his daughters to go to school in California, and stayed for about 7 years.
Fred had studied Chen Man Ching’s 37 Form, push hands, Laozi philosophy and the Tai Chi classics, but he felt it wasn’t enough. He wanted to prove for himself whether Lao Zi’s philosophy Wuwei and the Classics Tai Chi Quan could be applied in real life. So he began to visit Tai Chi Quan enthusiasts everywhere in Taiwan and in USA, and at the same time he also explored other martial arts. He interacted with some masters with different gongfu such as Hapqido, Chang Dongshen fast wrestling, Xienyi Quan, Kong Shodao, Tai Quan Dao, Qin-Na, sparring, boxing, etc. He combines these experience into his learning. Fred’s many experiences have given him the enthusiasm to teach, demonstrate, and interact with and answer various questions from those enthusiastic practitioners.
