Notes: Workshops, Evening & Morning Sessions
White Crane Qigong - Sat 29+Sun 30 July
The White Crane Qigong is made up of 5 sections. In this comprehensive and popular 2 day workshop, each section is thoroughly learned, practiced and experienced, leaving you with a great movement meditation for all round health.
Although the complete practice is recommended, newcomers may attend the first day only.
If you are already familiar with the practice then you are welcome to attend either or both days as a refresher.
You will receive a booklet of notes in PDF format for this course.
Angus has written a book on the White Crane Qigong, which you can order from him for £6 + £2 postage (UK)
The Tai Chi Ruler with Simon Wyard - you’ll need one for this workshop! - Mon 31 July
This is a fantastic opportunity to learn one of the most ancient and fundamental tai chi / qigong practices. Its use pre-dates all other tai chi and references to it can be traced back to the 5thC A.D. Simon Wyard is a truly experienced player with a vast depth of understanding, skill and knowledge in this department, which he’s very good at sharing.
**You’ll need a ruler and Angus is having some made (although a rolling pin can suffice as a poor substitute initially). Please get in touch as soon as you know that you would like one. Each one is hand turned and will cost in the region of £25.**
Early Morning Exercises (2-5 Aug) +
Evening Sessions on the Moors (2+4 Aug)
What a joy it is to start and close a day with tai chi out in nature - allowing the wildness in you awaken to join with the wildness around you. That’s exactly what these sessions are all about and over the course of a few days you really will get a sense of tuning to the rhythm of the season.
Early morning sessions will take place on Meldon Hill, near Chagford,
7.00-8.00am Wednesday to Saturday. Meet at the back of Meldon 7am
Here we’ll greet the day and run through the 21 tai chi/qigong exercises including Mountain Top.
Evening Sessions will take place on Meldon Hill on Friday and possibly other evenings as well.
Meet at the back of Meldon at 8.00pm.
If it’s a clear evening on Friday we are likely to see the moon rise as well as the sun set.
Cost: If you are attending the day workshops, then these sessions are free.
If it’s just these that you’re coming and you are not attending the workshops,
then please bring a donation on the day. Thank you.
Tai Chi Essence + Contact Partner Work: Tues 1, Thurs 3 + Fri 4 Aug
Angus’s Living Movement approach to tai chi recognises 5 key processes
(Freeing, Aligning, Focusing, Sensing and Being)
that form the ‘essence’ of tai chi and act as the foundation
from which your experience stems and can be shaped.
On a Tai Chi Essence day you start to become aware of your body
- how you move, where you feel restricted, where you are holding .....
‘Relationship’ accounts for a vast proportion of what we do in life
and influences how we do things.
We are in relationship with people (and others) day in, day out.
Tai Chi partner work is based on principles of listening with awareness through contact.
You look at the way that you tend to interact and learn ways to be alert and responsive;
centred and grounded while engaging with others.
That's all the serious stuff - the other point is that tai chi partner work really is a lot of fun.
Wa-Po - Tues 1 Aug:
Short Sequence Contact Partner Dance
Pushing Hands - Thurs 3 Aug:
Set and free flow partner play
Playing with the Martial Applications - Fri 4 Aug:
A fun approach to the martial aspect of the game
Short Form Intensives - Fri 4th and Sat 5th August
You could say that the Tai Chi form is the central hub of your tai chi experience.
If you are familiar with the Dr Chi/Cheng Man Ching Tai Chi Short Form then come and study!
Take your practice further with posture sequence, principles and application.
